Caramel Chip Bars

"Someone brought these to a workshop today and they are TO DIE FOR."

In a large sauce pan, mix 1/2 c. butter (no substitutes), 1 14-oz can of sweetened condensed milk, and 32 caramels (unwrap them first!).  Cook and stir over medium low heat until smooth.  Cool.

In a mixing bowl, combine a package of yellow cake mix, 1/2 c. vegetable oil, and 2 eggs, stir well.  Stir in 2 C mini-chocolate chips, 1 C. vanilla or white chips and 1 small package of Heath bar chips.  Dough will be stiff.  Press 3/4 of the dough into a greased 13x9 inch pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.  Place on a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes.

Pour caramel mixture over the crust.  Drop remaining dough by spoonfuls onto caramel layer.  Bake for 25-30 minutes or until edges are golden brown.  Cool for 10 minutes, run a knife around the edge of pan.  Cool 40 minutes longer, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Take the pan out of the frig and let the bars warm up a bit before attempting to cut them.

Might as well just have a heart attack now....
