The Christmas bell
tradition at First United Methodist Church is that anyone who
has ever been
in one of the bell choirs is invited to play for Christmas Eve.
There's one rehearsal -
usually on Christmas Eve Day morning. It's a great reunion time:
a chance to see former ringers who are
home from college and old friends visiting their families for
the holidays. If necessary, Bill borrows
sets of bells so that anyone who wants to play has a spot. This
year, the purchase of our second set (5 octaves
of Schulmerich handbells) and the creative use of our seventh
octave low chimes and even a boomwhacker provided
everyone with something to play. It makes Bill's holiday complete
and everyone looks forward to a fun, festive time.
